A thought has being lingering in my mind we are only equal when we are dead and our time is short anyway…I started this a fortnight ago now.Well actually month’s back but could not face writing anything my past couple of weeks has had more downs than anything else .Can anybody loan me some hope or concentration.today its 6.45 am my right eye is still giving me trouble, wrapped up in a blanket sat crossed legged on laminate flooring, need another pair of socks.I feel like a shit son I forgot to post my mothers birthday present at the weekend nearly wrote something on loneliness though  instead I scrapped that as that was taking me to a place I didn’t want to visit.Emotionally and mentally in honesty I am low.I finally got out my jeans a couple of days ago  I nearly wore just short of  a week .on Sunday I had my first shave to day i need another.although I feel like shit being consumed by depression I ATTACKED My hair too second d.i.y haircut of this year its wonky, uneven in length i dont care its the best i can do it helped take that frustration away.

I need to try looking presentable just for myself doing so takes a lot of energy especially when struggling with so many things.I always ramble on about things before I start a review or typing my thoughts out I suppose its almost setting a scene or its to sort of explain  my state of being affects impacts how I hear an album ? I think this has a relevance for me listening to music is more than just listening it is also an emotional thing.you may not like my interwoven rambling openness honesty well its part of me part .Music is the thing that keeps me in the ‘present’ now.

For my individual world a running time of an album can be a crucial factor for either enjoyment or other feeling and quality of songs rather than quantity is what i prefare. This album is only 40 minutes and songs of the finest quality.A solo album by enigmatic front woman of savages the connection ends there self presumption lets you down, this is wht happened to me feeding a despondency. The title I find something of a paradox some people fear love, love itself takes on many forms you can love too much yet not at all to live is an existence full of complexities, tense ,and some live without nothing to love including their selves.this album challenges a subsitance or continuation of the ever continuing struggles we face .lead by her values from her life lived?of being human and what it means in some sort of microscopic detail yet one of emotion that rage we feel, failure love lust want and need ,, sex and sin ,basic human instincts that many of us find unobtainable.we are born to die ,to grow old with that we gain wisdom experience and this in some way examines this havoc ,commotion life brings us until we almost become nostalgic of the path that has lead us to the life we have lived .whilst admitting we are insignificant ,we are flawed, damaged,i have always seen my self as broken despite hurdles faced and overcome.we maybe deluded ,more hold have privilege than others abuse their power for mistreating others. Most of the albums I have listened to this year have being varied many have ‘bleaker’ darker connotations just maybe I overloaded myself with too much some solace or comfort into how i am feeling. .

The front sleeve features a naked jenny Beth in sculptural form now I don’t know if its an actual sculpture or one made from computer wizardry ?in her  nakedness there’s no vulnerability  from  the body language only strength ,defiance and anger ,surety this confidence assertiveness is in her lyrics. The back all titles aligned centrally, the lp does not come with a download. inside a vast empty blackness whilst an inner sleeve has both credits and lyrics inside a pristine white vinyl emerges a ray of bright light in the darkness.Venturing forth with her debut solo album nothing like savages sound if that is your expectation then you maybe disappointed.all artists mature, grow ,expand change direction , wanting to both challenge viewer, listener ,self and this is where jenny shines she is an artist throughout this you can hear the progress made on her continuing artistic measurement.

I was devastated gradually it found its way to the back of stuff to play.I felt it was money thrown down the drain my opinion changed since then but I know it’s the least played album this year .More down to me mentally and emotionally than anything else. I just can not find the place to slip into to really enjoy it saying that I do appreciate this solo debut the timing is not right for my listening pleasure. My lessons learnt don’t presume what you have heard before is the sound our ears will be met with.Prevalent is an intensity ferociousness layered with anxieties inconsistency helplessness and violence whilst. power and sensitivity, vulnerability play throughout.A new chaos jenny brings forth which is hers and hers alone in a vocal audio chaos she is in charge of musically its an entire different journey developed captivating built-up beauty with lacerations of roughness and softness emotion at the innercore been intense complex electronic soundscapes that seem to blend together all these elements like the weather and terrains of those emotional planes with orchestration too,

  • Dyslexia at the moment  does not help with medication etc everyday struggles small become massive obstacles challenges for me mentally trying to cope with a bleakness that I need to see out of personally I feel defeated more hopeless than ever.I started writing this a month ago for it just to fall by the waste side just to the plethora of phone calls of organisations. Agencies gps and such forth that have come to nothing.I am finding it hard to keep the Word Press maintained not many people read it anyway. I should push it but there are millions of better sites on the internet run with proper journalism and specialist sites I log in erratically when I have something to post stats do not bother me.I am finding it hard to keep the Word Press maintained not many people read it anyway. I should push it but there are millions of better sites on the internet run with proper journalism and specialist sites I log in erratically when I have something to post stats do not bother me.I have never being good at selling myself nor my work and this music blog things just to keep me sane if people like it that’s a bonus. Everything I write comes from my heart.Music is nearly always on I do not live with television nor have accounts for Netflix or any online subscription service in fairness  I still watch buy the odd DVD there’s something about the physicality of a product. Choice and variation overwhelms me.

Someone had left a comment. You’re thinking it’s only a comment but that one comment gave me positivism.I was speechless with excitement upon discovering it was from a band I had to see if I could find them online contacting them to say thank you inquiring when a physical version will be released. Feeling uncomfortable about digital releases as my logic with technology is not that great. I always loose digital files ending up with album folders with no music whilst the imbecile in me looses note books, and documents typed up I am going off track here.Conversation ensured back and forth I got a message threatening to send me music well that’s a new experience preferably than an actuality getting beaten up but it did beat my ears up culminating in a joyous rapture.Unzipping the file feeling full of suspense simultaneously being  mortified freaked out  my mind went dizzy all I did was think of bands like Nancy’s place, magnetic fields, naked city, fantomas discovering this album whopping 43 tracks .I knew it would be consuming I just did not know how much or why.

Well by the time I have gotten around to writing this the actual physical cd will be available to buy it is limited edition and yet again like an idiot I could not pre-order one .living is far too expensive and music well I now define it as a luxury maybe there will be some physical copies left I do hope so.

Santa sprees are a band I really wish I did hear before now .The reverse sleeve all 43 track titles listed in white on black this  front sleeve looks like lines of teeth or fingernails in various tones with what could be lines of scripture I looked closer discovering it’s the title written with a fountain pen?It was listened to heavily straight away which may of being a stupid move maybe listen to it in two sittings. This had its own dilemmas whilst burning it to disc  what did I not include ,what tracks would be ignored this I could not do as this choosing would lessen the impact , effect the art of music to the extent of how the album is heard some strange tale in itself as the portable CD Walkman broke.
It runs for nearly an hour and half or something extraordinarily alike please do not fear either the running time nor amount of tracks.

Please embrace it in its wholeness a word of warning though I have found it hard to try and dance to this, its impossible, the effects are like taking drugs well I only take anti depressants but you become altered almost asked to climb into this audio journey for the whole running time you may wish to stop half way through or just do it in stages This kaleidoscopic work of intense Avant garde beauty is bizarre strange whilst being breathe taking glorious cementing this as a future underground lo fi indie epic.If you seek escapism from mundanity and dullness I highly recommend this. Essentially needing to be heard adored with the rapid inferno of quirkiness that swims throughout okay yes its bonkers, busy with all the instruments played losing count as the album continues there is also a childlike innocence as in playfulness.

Accordion? Piano, drums, keyboards, recorders, bongos sometimes detuned guitars, spoken word not all at once though; subtle wailing noises of various frequencies underneath other instrumentation, calming yet restless noises, bleeps respective hypnotic hooks soulful too with intermittent wonderful backing vocals.

The breathe and scope is vast easiest way imagine bright eyes /east river pipe being fed on a diet of Olivia tremor control /Looper, young marble giants /moldy peaches/bonzo dog/belle and Sebastian /poly phonic spree even to say the frames on the track lets go back to normal. A little glam in places with beautiful harmonies ,arrangements  then I suppose your halfway there to what Santa sprees sound like but trying to write something simple is not always that easy.by track 16 you may start to loose your mind/reality  well that’s how far I got earlier on today ,its 20:18 my heads blagged  and you know I am happy in this beautiful auditory madness unable to recall where I last listened to An album becomes wonderfully hard to define a pinpointed ‘genre’. I am also sat cross legged bopping away, losing myself with a freak out dance.Vocals are certainly distinct you will either like them or not like say bob Dylan or Neil young that’s where the comparisons they sound nothing alike yet it’s a sheer unique vocalization one that can only be described as  sort of Connor obersest meets the guy from east river pipe say maybe the Mel album period. I will shut up now buy it, play it love it fall into the madness that is Santa sprees. Oh now yes you can buy a cd version of it now I intend to do that when I get my bank sorted out still overdrawn. The Highlights of this album are many I would choose some but my head is seriously gone listening to this in a good way. The world needs this band.

Dirty Laces-The Modern Age ep

Never heard of these neither did i? Until an exhibition launch night for the fc bands brand took place at the brud.in the main room a free live gig.Supports were djs one whom a friend.I had to show my support.

Dirty laces are a young band Manchester based. The sleeve reminiscent of a flower head psych art vibe band logo sits in the middle like ying and yang. This 4 track ep barely makes 12 minutes yet it’s their debut physical release.

Their imaging  sound of roughly blended  garage ,indie, rock present in the vocal delivery in which the Manchester  twang comes out every now and again with soaring  guitar solos  pounding drums .Sounding oddly reminiscent of some great bands long gone yet is that disrespectful or complimentary .A very 90s nostalgic feel  the vibes given off d4,strokes,artic monkeys esq.

This ep really shows reveals their potential. It’s live on stage where they truly shine for me.

Looper-Off Grid Off Line

Looper off grid off line 2018 mute records

Many countless years in a musical past there existed salako signed by jeepster records from my home town.

The Adelphi traditionally held some special events yatkah also clinic Sid griffin and the coal porters’ youngest one in that crowd. A few critical others that fortnight I naturally wanted to attend said Looper/salako gig I never saw either mixing up dates even though a promotional flyer stuck on my bedroom door this was back in about 1998 or 1999.

Genuinely think the local events were called village fete I nevertheless have that listening flyer somewhere its scrappy rather torn now in a box. Although belle and Sebastian undoubtedly became the more prominent band Looper, stand respectfully my prime favorite out of the likely two.

Looper so criminally underrated their fourth album released almost silently very little awareness on my considered part I genuinely believe. It scarcely came to my attention while window shopping. Exclusively a vinyl only release a pressing of 500 copies. After an absence of more than a decade with one … either side releases plus box set most of this album also available on there.

A sleeve full on floor tiling over lay with contour lines. Inner white sleeve whilst that beautiful transparent blue vinyl peeps out. A title suggestive about an alternative lifestyle cut off from normality that everyone takes for granted eliminate the internet, get rid of household fuels gas electricity almost going back to nature.

A shift in typography font an introspective lo fi sound still distinctive that was ingenious first time round. Delicate crafted songs intimate that make you listen those that you want to move with the blast of funk organ, electronics till after all these years a band I find haunting in such a strange way upbeat and sad . I was first drawn to the spoken word tracks all those years ago on up a tree what we have here is an album infused with their past creations, output in which they still continue to create something unique.

Dream Wife- so when you gonna….

July 3rd lucky numbers

Standard  vinyl. Pink limited vinyl, download and cd

11 tracks 40 odd minutes

i wrote this some time ago it was lost in my notebook i had torn them out

The sleeve a double gate fold beautiful tonally the photo that greats us is one of anger,  joy, celebration ,indifference ,and defiance together as one whilst slightly separated flowing with a movement a sense of conflict?.

The reverse sees the track listing laid out like a set list gaffer tapped to the floor in which features a fair bit of colour.

A gate fold inner reveals a collage of photos of both band and gig audience. Littered on the inner bag are the lyrics.

I became smitten with this album after only hearing a couple of tracks on the b side.

This album I am unable to say how many times its been played having losing count when I am out for a stroll it’s on my mp3 player most I have played it is 5 times in a row but it’s a daily go to album.

So when you gonna ……could be an open ended statement of question waiting for replies of commitment, promises in that passage of time that you’ve being let down. Don’t apologies for being yourself, don’t wait for opportunities to come make them yourself using the skills and knowledge you already hold.

I heard on the radio they worked with some one whose past works include Bork. the band are doing things most young bands don’t do there production team are those who are female or identify as female highlighting the disparity between the inequalities that exist within the music industry . intimate,  QUIET ,passionate punk .

Emotionally it captures you draws you in THOSE TENDER HEARTFELT TRACKS bring a tear to your eye catching you off guard .

raw reflections speak of longing , want need and  love with a total frank directness of desire and disappointment irony and condemnation ,

lyrically some of it  mature beyond their years, maybe even experience they talk opening about taboo subjects issues miscarriage abortion, and there is some metaphors  contained within that I did not understand maybe due to ignorance or the fact I have never heard them before in there , emotionally raw ,reflective  whilst at times some lyrics are a little naive ,childlike  losing sense to me yet that can or is forgiven as in those instances the music happily makes up for it  , it’s a stunning follow up from their debut. Musically its raw , furious , frantic  hooks galore with rather fine bass lines ,guitars tender with balladeer moments ,this sees her vocals shine and dance on all levels ,it catches me off guard still ,you will be smitten with this album to eventually fall in love with it.Whilst the music in a similiar style to their debut

Insecure Men-Karaoke for one vol 1

Insecure men
Karaoke for One Vol. 1(Fat Possum Records)
Cold early miserable morning hours, a terrible sickness hangs both in head n stomach
Sufficiently preparing a decent cup of excellent tea to sit attentively on the laminate flooring.
A sleeve stares out at me from under the dim lamplight.
The productive imagery of a senior citizen in some mild form of official acknowledgement.
Somewhat impeccably dressed whilst a little disheveled.
An intensity burns in his fierce eyes.
The first few plays without a doubt dreadful I really despised it,
Definitely the worst album I undoubtedly heard for some reasonable time.
Everything about it was to be pointless.
Invariably unable to instantly comprehend what seemed like plausible madness.
Begrudgingly I felt ripped off..
A back ample sleeve instantly reveals the bizarre setlist either a rave move or bonkers.
Apparent truth beholds not an I.Men record realistically on the contrary solo album under the elaborate disguise of the band moniker.
That initial play I naturally assumed may be relegated to typically gather dust.Carefully digging it out I invariably found the down load code, hmm alternative music for the pleasant trip.
Intentionally walking amongst the lush greenery and continuous daylight, my fertile brain flipped.
All that negative impression promptly gone.
Okay, nothing like an acclaimed album I listen neither daily nor weekly, yet slowly one fell in love with.
Reasonably regarding to how much or little I have typically engaged is the conscious realization.
How both disturbing unsettling upon the willing ears this is delightfully.
Thinking back all the essential clues is enough in the notable title.
Limited edition vinyl
Typically representing nothing but vocals keyboards, rawness in its expansive magic amongst the bizarreness. A pleasant journey of 30-minutes weirdness .

Hideous delightful, in which these reinventions become rather outstanding if not on par of inventive genius.
A cover album of the almost obscure oddities normality is redundant in a parallel in congruent world yet all identifiable.
They sound more poinignant than the originals.

social disconnects by Bis

Bis social disconnects

Bis I grew up with in my teens my guilty pleasure after watching the infamous top of the Pops appearance. Finally moving cities to finish my studies I finally got to see them live maybe 15 years later that did not matter but what a joy live indeed.

I saw them on their data panic ectectera tour. I got to meet them got various singles signed whilst picking up their set list for the night on the reverse was another set list that must have been scrapped.

Bis are gracing us with their new album social disconnects their 5th and signing to a new label.

It’s a short and sweet album ten tracks and 30 minutes

I played it three or four times ironically unable to neither connect with it nor enjoy it I just did not appreciate that I was hearing.it is not an instantly likeable album however hard I tried maybe I was trying too hard when you should not have to try to enjoy music.

But an album challenging you by a band you love is no bad thing with me yet misplacing or losing my mp3 player As my mp3 player goes everywhere with me. I have lost so many albums I want to actually hear.

Bis it certainly is doing what they do best yet they have not explored new musical grounds. There is certain nostalgia to some of the songs it has the playfulness of their debut, without being too obvious whilst having maturity within the sound as you would expect, the songs are still frantic bouncy with that addictive quality and  energy only  their songs can contain pulling you into a direction you least expected to be pulled in. The songs are infectiously filled with harmonies, then   choruses you cannot help but sing

March 2nd Domino Records

A perfect album to put a smile on your face, if you need to switch off whilst whittling the day away

Gate fold sleeve yellow on green pretty much looks like a lino cut collaged with pen n paper on the back.

The group stare point at another planet or sun. On the front this said planet sees a large shark I think with their name tattooed within.

These worlds/planets don’t align it may of made more sense if the imagery was reversed it would of had a definitive continuity.

If it is a lino out then it’s quite hard to do dependent on the style of lino. Inner gate fold green blank page sitting opposite Track listing and credits lyric sheet continues the arts tonal theme

This debut album features 8 tracks, the difference in mind set joyful playfulness. Trippy daring amongst the kaleidoscope vibrancy anarchic pandemonium of sound A rhythm of all its own. A sound like no other incorporating the usual band set up plus various samples involving coke being poured and glass bottles blown into amongst others which have meaning and not just thrown in for sake being.

Art pop dance put thru a blender a humour runs throughout An album without  political  lyricism or anything heavy, it doesn’t matter yet what matters is their age and what influences them or rather worries them which revolves around youth culture along with  culture, mental health  and media platforms, it’s a clever album yet for me it was not that instantaneous a couple of listens for me to really get into

2 October 2020

Produced by Chris Taylor who has worked with the likes of upcoming band the lathums I ain’t heard them yet only know their name from seeing their last single sleeve. Plus cabbage i love a single of theirs I forget the name and blossoms among many others.Mundane Friday morning when this was started its over run into weeks now. Already had my battles just to get up, I am permanently exhausted shit i have struggled to literally get on my feet they don’t want to work coordination getting worse.i sleep in the afternoons the little walks wiped me out.it exhausts me when i write trying to reach a level of unobtainable perfection, spelling checking,re checking a strange paradox the thing you like exasperates you a level of enjoyment is not there.its a sort of battle trying to gain some notion of achievement. dislexia etc thinking of criticism not received yet. When i started writing this same time last week time it 6.38 am.fucking nightmares plague me last night dreamt my tongue exploded rendering me mute.i suppose that’s down to either fears or insecurities or is it Representative of the fact i have had no meaningful conversation at all? And my capabilities of speech are turning to mush?Their band font somehow reminds me of the one used by big scary monsters.the sleeve warm earhty in tone, pink vinyl makes a nice contrast.

Red Rum Club I had read about them on numerous occasions, knew n6othing about them I thought they would be just another indie band never getting round to hearing them .Then to my surprise ..Red rum club dropped by headingly to do an in store semi acoustic set at vinyl whistle before their sold out show on the night. What nice down to earth guys they are I talked to the trumpet player the most so are the roadies I think their tour manager was there to.They did their set outside on the pavement their audience across the road and either side; they stopped the traffic. Afterwards having time to talk to all those fans that turned up plus signing merchandise. Considering I nearly wrote these guys off originally without hearing them up until that free in store/pavement performance.

I became a fan just on this performance alone. That my friends can be part of the power music has.Their short sort of acapella semi acoustic set performed by this Liverpudlian sextet was incredible. You wanted to dance, smile. it was an instant dose of joy. They should think about releasing a semi acoustic album in the future.

All the ‘hype’ around them was totally understandable. The Hollow of Humdrum their second album and my introduction to them.Astounding more punk than indie for its running time its thirty minutes of infectious uplifting indie even if not totally unique yet no denying they have crafted their own sound. It’s a polished; clean what makes them stand out for me is the added horn making their sound warmer.each track will get you moving.the album is a triumph making me want to hear their debut.Another album about human emotions feelings personally right now I am numb  plus this has being a catastrophe this time last week  broke my dc mug bye batman, wonder woman gutted as it’s the only cup I possess  missed judged the edge of the side anywayRelationships in which they have an effect on us with those relationships many experiences happen there or enabling memories to be made whilst echoing this representation of morals, codes, expectations which are vague building up falsifying altering misrepresenting voices, changes how the world maybe viewed media, social platforms and such like.

4.30 am awaking half asleep unsettled by the chill of both early dawn and the room a jumper and hoodie plus two quilts are still inefficient .my back and chest heavy with a dampness which is not perspiration the chill also runs through my feet.i have to dig things out in daylight as the light is both inefficient and dim through the lonely bulb.

Hammering away at this .Deciding to try something constructive i failed a0t that.this is the second or third week working on this with revisions editing those mental struggles of poor concentration a hindrance of daily life..i watched home alone a couple of variations of a Christmas carol predominately i have been taking to my bed sleeping the hours away in an afternoon when at my most depleted my Christmas dinner was eggs on toast .my diets being crap my diabetes poor a vicious cycle trying to cope look after myself and i am failing bonus though barely an alcohol has touched my lips a can of neck oil and dead pony and a housemates offer of ginger Bacardi.i am feeling incredibly low, lonely moods plummeting today whilst blood sugars are high.Tomorrows a different day i will pick myself up.My friend dropped by Christmas night socially distanced outside of course really made my night bringing a present i did not expect a beautiful micro CD player and the best plate of rice and peas with curried goat and the most fiery chicken wings ever tasted .

i have no idea how to format an upside down exclamation mark this simple thing caused a great panic.Menswear back in the day came to my ears when i was listening to anything and everything including northern uproar,Nancy boy,gay dad off top of my head they were bands i assure you no one really admitted to liking i suppose dependent on company or circle of friends maybe so still today maybe my taste in music has never being great.Being judged i’m used to whether that be my lack of dress sense judged for always being open about my mental health ridiculed is rather an appropriate word.menswear originally had this awaiting to be released back in 1998 it got shelfed never released and entire the teritory of lost albums but it would never be labelled a lost classic album.Released as part of record store day the band wouldn’t be attracting new fans with this album even puzzling their die hard fan Base replacing their sound with an almost country tinged rock vibe.the album was and I a a slow burner a couple of atand out tracks but it is a case of more filler than killer.
